Policies

The Dolphin Swim Team volunteers and coaches do not supervise children unless they are participating in the current practice. Parents are responsible for supervising their children before and after practices and during swim meets. Parents or a designated adult of swimmers 8 years and younger are required to be at practice and other swim team events with their child.

Discipline Policy

To ensure the safety of all swimmers, the following progressive discipline steps will be taken for those swimmers who disregard pool/safety rules, and/or display disrespect for the coaches, teammates, and/or parent volunteers. Swimmers engaging in unacceptable behavior stand to lose team privileges, including loss of participation in meets and possible removal from the team.

1. Verbal warning to the swimmer.
2. Swimmer sits out for 5 – 10 minutes. Parents will be notified.
If unacceptable behavior occurs at a meet, swimmer will be required to sit with a parent for the duration of the meet.
3. Swimmer will be asked to leave the practice or meet for the day.
4. If the behavior continues, parental attendance will be required at practice until the situation is under control. Swimmer will not be able to attend team social events.
5. If behavior continues, swimmer may be removed from the team.

Swimmer Code of Conduct

In order to make the Hanarry West swim team a pleasant experience for everyone involved and so that each swimmer can make the most of his/her swim team experience, certain minimal standards of behavior will be required. Behavior including but not limited to profanity, name-calling, physical violence, poor sportsmanship, and disobeying a coach’s instructions will not be tolerated.

1. Be on time and be prepared for practices and meets.
2. Listen and follow directions from coaches.
3. Always display good sportsmanship, treating coaches, teammates, volunteers, officials and other teams with respect.
4. No horseplay on pool deck or in the water.
5. Respect the use of the Hanarry West Club facilities and team equipment. This includes not hanging on lane lines and cleaning up after yourself.

Parent Code of Conduct

Summer swim team is a labor of love for countless volunteers and is a wonderful community to be a part of. We want to preserve the wonderful sense of community the team has and keep this experience as positive and encouraging as possible for all involved. Please take requests for your time seriously. Please read emails from the team and respond promptly as needed. There is a parent volunteer – with a long to-do list – on the other side of that email awaiting your response.

1. Be on time and provide support. Sign up for at least the minimum number of required volunteer shifts. If something unavoidable comes up, let the Volunteer Coordinator know ASAP or find someone to take your spot.
2. Show respect to coaches and be encouraging to all swimmers — our team and visiting team.
3. Show respect to officials and team managers — who are volunteers and fellow parents. Everyone is doing their best to ensure a fun and functional meet. Please maintain a respectful demeanor if you have any concerns to bring to officials or team leadership.
4. Respect team facilities. Remember there is no cleanup crew at home or away meets. Parents and swimmers are responsible for cleaning up all of their trash and personal items. If you can, leave your area better than you found it.
5. Be a good host. One of the wonderful aspects of summer swim is competing against neighboring pools, and the Dolphins want to be a friendly, welcoming team that demonstrates good sportsmanship and great hospitality.

Reminders

For the safety of swimmers, please do not talk with the coaches during a practice. Coaches want all their attention for the swimmers during practice time. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to talk with the coaches after practice or through e-mail. If you can't catch a coach after practice, please email [email protected]

Coaches cannot help swimmers to the bathroom. If you exit the pool area for any reason, designate another adult to be in charge of your child(ren).

If not practicing, swimmers need to stay away from the pool (and out of the pool), where the coaches will be walking and working with swimmers.

All baby pools throughout the league are closed during practices. The team’s insurance, provided through Gwinnett County Swim League, only covers team members in the lap pool. This rule is standard for summer swim teams in the county. Please remind your swimmers of this rule and keep them out of the baby pool – it’s a distraction for coaches to constantly remind kids.

We will have practice if there is a light rain. If it is thundering or lightening, practice will be cancelled.

During meets, ensure that your swimmer(s) stay in the designated team bullpen area. If your swimmer is not sitting with the rest of the team, it is nearly impossible for Bullpen and Staging volunteers to find your swimmer, which increases the likelihood they will miss their race. It is ultimately the swimmer's responsibility to be ready and present for the event.
