HW Dolphins: Third Meet Week

Third Meet Week

For our first away meet of the season, we are headed to swim at Snellville Supersonics. This is our only meet outside of the Lilburn area and the largest team (144 swimmers) we will face this season. For those reasons and because this meet will start later than normal (see timeline below), this will likely be our latest finishing meet of the season.

Location:
Briscoe Park (2500 Sawyer Pkwy)

Parking – Because this is a Gwinnett County Park there is a parking lot and ample parking compared to pools in neighborhoods. The Supersonics have communicated to ONLY park in designated parking spots, all yellow curbs are fire lanes with no parking AND that tickets have been given at past meets for vehicles not parking properly.

Seating – As you enter the pool, the visiting area is to the right on a small area of concrete and in a grassy area in the right-hand corner of the pool area. The Supersonics recommend families bring chairs and even tents (there is no shade).

Timeline:
Because this is a county pool, the meet will start 15 minutes later than normal.

Gates open to facility: 5:30
Hanarry West warm-ups: 5:45-6:05 p.m.
Timers & Officials meeting: 6 p.m.
Meet start time: 6:15 p.m.

We expect the meet may last until 11 p.m. based on the size of both teams. Both coaches are working to minimize heats (there will be only one heat of relays) and other ways to keep the meet moving quickly. When the heat sheet is available on Wednesday, we’ll have a better sense of a possible end time and will communicate that with you all.

Pool:
The pool at Briscoe Park is a 6 lane meter pool (1 meter is about 1.09 yards), so you may notice seed times and results look a little different in SwimTopia. Our pool and the pool for our last meet at Mountain Park are all 25-yard pools.

Volunteer Needs

Shed Repair:
Our team shed is in need of some repair this season, and we’d love to find a volunteer with woodworking skills that might be able to take on this project. The wood near the roof has been damaged, possibly by carpenter bees, birds or insects, and needs to be repaired or replaced. Under the eaves, there is nothing preventing insects or animals from finding their way inside, so we’d like to install some sort of barrier. The team can pay for supplies, but we’d appreciate anyone who could lend their skills to this important storage for the Dolphins. Reach out to team managers at [email protected]

Pavers:
We are hoping to expand our storage on the side of the team shed by creating a level spot with stone pavers, which could hopefully hold a storage box and Blackstone. If you have experience or skills for a project like this, we’d love to have a volunteer(s) work on this project this summer. The team can pay for supplies. Reach out to team managers at [email protected]

Coach Kudos Cards
We hope swimmers and parents will continue to write Coach Kudos Cards throughout the season. Just like our swimmers, our teenage coaches are learning and growing throughout the season. And just like the encouragement they give to our kids all season long, we want to do the same for them! The cards are located in the blue mailbox under our message board – and then can be dropped in the white mailbox.
