Three Things for Thursday: June 19
1. Rain
It appears for Summer 2025, it’s going to rain every day! So for the remaining week and half of the season, we recommend always being prepared for a rain – forecasted or popup. Pack umbrellas, trash bags, tents, extra towels and clothes. In anticipation of possible rain before or during the meet today (the forecast seems to change every hour), we are making a few changes:
BULLPEN: HW Bullpen will be on the concrete area behind the diving board. We know our mud-loving swimmers may be disappointed. This will be a tighter space than normal, so please encourage kids not to spread out or bring too much stuff. We’ll have the 6 & Under closest to staging and the pavilion, with age groups going up from there.
TENTS: We are going to welcome tents for this meet. Large tents seem to work much better for meets – they have a higher roof for better visibility. If you have an extra tent for the bullpen, feel free to bring that as well. Please be thoughtful of necessary walkways and other spectators when you set your tent up. Work together.
If the meet is postponed or delayed due to inclement weather, the meet will be rescheduled or continued Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
2. Breakdown
Tonight’s meet should be a close one (Waterton is about the same size as we are and equally competitive) and it should be the second longest of the season. We are anticipating ending between 10:30-11 p.m. And with this being a home meet that means many of our leadership team – primarily coaches and team managers will start setting up at 3 p.m. and work until after 11 p.m. doing breakdown. If everyone could spend 10-15 minutes at the end of the meet (or whenever you leave) helping with breakdown, it would be a HUGE help! We have just two volunteers and three coaches officially assigned to this role.
- If you leave early in the meet, look around and see if there is anything that can be cleaned up or packed up, including trash, recycling, lost & found items
- Around 9 p.m. our Concession Stand closes (or runs out of food!) and at this point all those boxes, supplies, trash, etc. can be broken down.
- If your swimmers complete in fly or last relay, we would appreciate help taking down signs and banners or other items not essential to the meet.
- At the end of the meet, please help move all the pool furniture (it will be in the parking lot this meet) back into place.
Thank you Dolphins!
3. Coach Gifts
With a little over a week before our season concludes, we want to say a big THANK YOU to our coaches for their leadership, their encouragement, their teaching skills and more! While they do receive paychecks, those paychecks are not big! And, we know our coaches would appreciate a cash gift (plus, any handmade cards or snacks you want to give them). If every family chips in a little, we can provide them with a nice bonus next Friday at the Celebration.
If your family would like to contribute to a group cash gift for our coaches, please send in your contribution by the end of day next Tuesday, June 23. You can label your gift to: “Coach Brown,” “Coach Ethan” or “Assistant Coaches”. If you want your gift split among all coaches, you can leave it blank or say “coaches.”
Contribute:
1) Venmo: Donate through our team Venmo account (HW-Dolphins)
2) Cash: Please give cash in a labeled envelope to Team Managers Patricia Heys or Christina van Maanen or Team Treasurer Shayna Olojo
See you at the pool!
