HW Dolphins: June 9 Updates

Happy Monday Dolphins!

SECOND MEET: Flowers Crossing

Last week’s meet was a long one! But thankfully also a dry one, and I know our parents loved the covered spectator area at Flowers Crossing. Thank you for your patience during a late night, especially to our second shift volunteers!

Even though we lost (to the 2024 County Champions), there were so many great swims for so many of our Dolphins – and a few kids swimming for the first time! On Friday, Coach Brown recognized several swimmers who have made many great strides as Swimmers of the Week: Luke Conway, Sarah Bolton, Levi Bolton, Felix Reiter, Kali Cummings, Liliana Cummings.

RESULTS for meets can be found each week on the calendar page of our website – click the link to “past events”. For swimmers and families interested in the top times in the Gwinnett County Swim League each week, the League posts the top 75 on its website. At the end of the season, these rankings are used to determine the top 50 in each event who will be invited to compete at the County Meet.

THANK YOU to our Coaches for helping swimmers navigate a new pool and staging area at Flowers Crossing and for offering such encouragement to our Dolphins during the meet!

THANK YOU to Bullpen & Staging Coordinator Mary Borneman for leading our bullpen and staging volunteers! It’s a more challenging job when our bullpen (while it was nice and spacious) is so far away from the starting area of the pool.

THANK YOU swimmers and families for cleaning up your area before leaving the meet Thursday! It was a huge improvement from the end of away meets last year! Please continue to remind your swimmers not only to pick up after themselves but to take on a team mentality – and clean up anything in our team area (even if the trash isn’t theirs)

THIRD MEET: Woods of Parkview

This week we’ll head to a nearby pool to swim the Woods of Parkview Poolcats! The Poolcats are located in the Parkview cluster of schools, so you’ll likely see lots of familiar faces – maybe friends, classmates and even neighbors. The Poolcats are a smaller team than our team this year, so please be extra gracious guests as we visit their pool and their home meet volunteers work to take care of our many swimmers and families.

FRIDAY EVENTS

Stroke Clinic – This week’s stroke clinic will focus on breaststroke and will have groups for beginners and more experienced swimmers looking to improve their stroke. Remember that the Stroke Clinic cost is $10 per swimmer. Cash is preferred but Venmo is also accepted. Please pay Coach Eric Brown. The Clinic is limited to 20 swimmers, and RSVP will open at 8 p.m. today.

Fun Friday – Thank you to the Dewald family for sponsoring this week’s Fun Friday! Come ready to celebrate all the great swims this week. And Swimmers of the Week, please bring your yard signs back with you. If your family would be willing to sponsor next week’s Fun Friday (our only one without a sponsor) there’s a sponsorship option on our website.

Book Extravaganza – Last week’s book exchange was such a hit that we had families requesting we do it again! You can bring books to donate all week long. Please give them to a Team Manager, Coach or put them in the entrance to the team shed. We’ll bring them all out during Fun Friday!

Abby McCulloh – Coach Eric Brown has invited swimmer Abby McCulloh to come speak to the Dolphins at 10 a.m. on Friday. McCulloh is a former Parkview High School swimmer, NCAA champion and a former Hanarry West Dolphin – you can find her name all over our record board! You can learn more about her in this recent article from UGA’s Red & Black newspaper.

Posters for Seniors – Our Spiritwear Coordinators will have posters for each of our seven seniors at Fun Friday, and we encourage swimmers and parents to come sign the posters – wish them good luck, congratulations or sign your name. Our Senior Night will be during our home meet on June 19.

Go Dolphins! See you at the pool!
