HW Dolphins Updates: April 16

Less than a month away!

We’ve closed registration for the Dolphins and the countdown is on for summer and the start of summer swim league! We have a great team for 2025 – 143 swimmers from 79 families, more than half who are members of the HW Swim & Tennis Club.

As we prepare for the start of the season on May 12, Team Managers are ordering team shirts and awards this week. We are also looking closely at the volunteer needs we still have left to fill! Please read through the following needs we have for the upcoming season and let us know if you have skills and capacity to fill any of them.

Thank you Dolphin families!

Volunteer Coordinator & Assistant
The old position of Volunteer Coordinator has been broken into 3 positions to try and make it more manageable. A big thank you to Kerri Cummings for stepping up into one of the Volunteer Assistant positions! We also have leaders in the following meet areas: Bullpen, Concessions, Timers, Officials, Ribbons, who will provide direction to volunteers in those areas during meets. But we are still looking for a Volunteer Coordinator and another Assistant to coordinate our volunteers before and during meets. These roles make sure all shifts are filled, check in volunteers, answer questions, introduce volunteers to leaders in the area they’ll be working and trouble-shoot any problems that arise. Obviously, these are critical roles for us to fill this season. Please let us know if you have any willingness to volunteer in this way.

Concessions Cooks
If you are interested in a volunteer shift as a Concessions Cook at our home meets and End of Season Awards this season, you’ll need to be pre-approved to sign up for this role. Please send us an email and let us know what foods you are skilled at preparing.

Please note that Concessions Cooks pay for the ingredients themselves. Some of the staples of the Hanarry West concession stand – and items volunteers cook and prep include: Baked potatoes, chili, baked ziti, fruit, assorted desserts (brownies, cookies, etc.). Our Concession Coordinators will provide detailed instructions, but cooks are asked to make servings between 25-40, depending on the item. And items should be brought to the pool by 4:30 p.m. ready to serve (so hot items should be hot).

Mosquito Fogging
We are looking for a few additional volunteers to help with mosquito fogging around the pool area this season. If you have equipment and the capacity to fog the property (usually done in the early morning or late evening), please send us an email. We are asking volunteers to pay for the cost of spray, but this can count toward a family’s required volunteer shifts.

Spray Painting Starting Blocks
We’d like to put a fresh coat of paint on our starting blocks before the season begins. If your family is unable to attend one of our required Pre-Season Work Days, this is another way to fulfill that requirement. Blocks are spray painted and the project would need to be complete by May 10. Send us an email if you can help in this way.

Fun Friday Sponsorship
We are still looking for one more Fun Friday sponsor. If your family or business is willing to support the team in this way, please let us know! You can fill out the sponsorship online or send us an email. Sponsorships are $150 and fund treats and activities for our 140+ swimmers.

Stopwatches
We are missing stopwatches that were used at last year’s County Meet at Tech. If you happened to go home with a team stopwatch, please let us know!

Crafting Skills
We are currently putting together a list of crafting type needs we will have for the coming season – laminating, creating hang tags, hole punching and notebook organizing, etc. If this is a skill set you have and would be willing to help in the team in this way, please let us know. Laminating machine is probably required! A Cricut or other craft tools are a bonus! These projects would count toward a family’s volunteer requirements for the season.

REMINDERS

Pre-Season Work Days
We have two remaining Pre-Season Work Days, which are a requirement for families this year. During the first two work days, volunteers accomplished SO MUCH! Just wait until you see how great the Club grounds look already! Be sure you’ve added the work day you signed up for to your calendar. You’ll receive an email the week prior with what tools or supplies to bring and your task assignment so you know what to wear. If for some reason your family is unable to attend either work day, please reach out to us as soon as possible so we can assign you a different pre-season task.

Swimsuits
We do not have an official team suit but encourage swimmers to wear our team color of royal blue. We will have a Swimsuit Exchange Table the first week of practice – so be sure to bring suits your kids have outgrown. You can also use our Facebook group to request certain sizes or post suits your kids no longer need.

See you soon at the pool!
