June 27: Three Things for Thursday

1. Seating & Bullpen at Evergreen

If you attended the meet at Evergreen last season, you might remember that they have a VERY small pool deck space on the visitors’ side. We should be able to fit 3 rows of spectators along the pool, and we can also fit another long row up along the fence (see photo). This space along the fence has a great view of the pool, and the 6U and 7-8 Bullpen will be directly behind this row on the other side of the sidewalk. So if you have a swimmer in this age group, this might be a great place to sit during the meet. Other age groups will be at the end of the sidewalk in a large grassy area. The seating for spectators will still be a tight, so pack light if possible.

The Eels have a large clubhouse (reserved for computers and ribbon volunteers), but only 1 bathroom for women and 1 for men (just a heads up). They will have concessions available, accepting cash and Venmo, and also King of Pops.

The good news about Evergreen is there are several streets surrounding the pool, so the walk from street parking will likely be shorter than normal.

2. Weather: Rain or Shine

A reminder that swim meets do happen in the rain. If thunder or lightning cause a delay, you’ll receive a notification through the SwimTopia app. For delays during meets, meet officials will ask all spectators and swimmers to wait in their cars until the meet can begin again.

It’s been a very hot week and there is no shade at Evergreen. Dress cool – wear your team hats and visors and tanks. There will probably be enough space in the grassy Bullpen for popup tents if anyone has those. And everyone remember to start hydrating now!

3. End of Season Celebration

Our celebration will be held tomorrow (Friday) from 9:30-11:30 a.m. If possible, have swimmers wear their team shirt – we’ll take age group photos. Veteran swimmers do not need to bring their orange lanyard this year – instead we have a special 50th anniversary medal for each swimmer.

At the end of each season, our team presents an award to the boy and girl high point earner in each age group. This is based on the number of points the swimmer earned for the team over the course of the season. The Dolphins also present stroke awards (freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly) to each boy and girl swimmer in each age group. These awards go to the swimmer with the fastest time in that stroke.

Hanarry West has a tradition of gifting embroidered towels to swimmers who have been a part of the team for 10 years, and you’ll see several of these gifted tomorrow.
