June 17: Dolphins Fourth Meet Week
Happy Monday Dolphins!
Our fourth meet is this week, and we are headed to swim the Waterton Waverunners! We’ll send out more information about Waterton (parking, concessions, etc) once we receive it from their team, but their pool is approximately 30 minutes from our pool. Their team is about the same size as ours, so plan for this meet to end before our Flowers Crossing home meet ended but a little later than last week’s Parkview Poolcats meet.
As you begin planning for Thursday’s meet, please plan to include small games or activities (plus snacks and water bottle) in your swimmers’ bags for the meet. Our hardworking Bullpen volunteers have asked us to remind parents (and swimmers) to remain in the Bullpen during the meet, especially our 6U, 7&8 and 9&10 swimmers. They struggled to find these younger swimmers, who have ended up running around other parts of the team area or sitting with their parents. If your swimmer likes to sit near or with their parents at a meet, we encourage you to find a spectator spot near the Dolphin Bullpen.
THANK YOU
A huge THANK YOU to our Volunteer Coordinator Maggie Hammond for working last Thursday’s meet even though none of her kids were swimming last week. A huge THANK YOU to our head coach for doing the same!
Our amazing concessions stand and its selection of homemade goods is made possible by some awesome volunteers. A big THANK YOU to the Dewald family, who donate double the amount of baked ziti we asked for at both home meets – and it was delicious! And a huge THANK YOU to Kym Chapman for donating homemade and homegrown blueberry cobbler, which quickly sold out (my family had four servings).
THANK YOU Arnout van Maanen for spending Father’s Day evening putting new wheels on our lane line holder!
LAST WEEK RESULTS
CONGRATULATIONS to Benjamin Lawrence, who broke his own record in the 7&8 Boys Butterfly and broke the team record in the 7&8 Boys 25 Freestyle!
And CONGRATULATIONS to our swimmers of the week! Team records, personal bests, awesome efforts and great attitudes all celebrated with a yard sign for these Dolphins to take home and display in their yards for a week: Sarah Swafford, Kobe Jones, Malina Humfleet, Jason Schaefer, Kuba Turner and Addi Hanik
You can log in to the SwimTopia app and see the results from last week’s meet. You can also find ALL the results on our “past events” calendar page. The Gwinnett County Swim League has posted the top 75 times from the league as some swimmers aim to qualify for the County Meet in July. Lots of Dolphins are on the list! (see attached) If you want to learn more about the County Meet and how the rankings work, check out our County Meet page – or feel free to ask a veteran swim parent or coach.
FUN FRIDAY
Thank you to the Borneman Family for sponsoring this week’s Fun Friday with the theme of “Bubbles, Balls and Brownies.” The Fun Friday treats are always a hit, and we should have enough for each team swimmer and any siblings that might be tagging along that morning to enjoy a treat as well. Please RSVP by EOD Tuesday so our volunteers can have an accurate headcount.
STROKE CLINIC
Each Friday of the season at 9 a.m. the Dolphin coaches offer an optional paid stroke clinic ($10 cash preferred, Venmo as well). This week is our last clinic and the focus is Breaststroke. The clinic will be limited to 20 swimmers. Sign-ups open on our website at 8 p.m. each Monday.
