June 10: Dolphins Third Meet Week
Happy Monday Dolphins!
Our third meet is this week, and it’s our final one at home! The Dolphins will be hosting some of our neighbors and friends – the Woods of Parkview Poolcats. They are a smaller team than Flowers Crossing (so parking should be better) but a competitive team (so the races will be great).
Once again, plan to come hungry as our amazing Dive & Dine Concession Stand will be open. (My BBQ sandwich topped with slaw last week was delicious!) This week’s menu will feature: Grilled Burgers, Carnitas Tacos, Hot Dogs, Baked Ziti, Pasta Salad, Dirt Cake and Cobbler! (complete menu is attached) Our concessions accept cash and Venmo (HW-Dolphins).
This year's meet setup will look very similar to last year’s. If you’ve never been to a home meet, we have diagrams of the deck and lots of meet info on the website.
THANK YOU
A huge THANK YOU to ribbon coordinator Angel Dimas (and husband Kevin) who worked last week’s meet and Fun Friday even though all their kids were all out of town!
A huge THANK YOU to Trisha Atkins (and husband Jason) for an amazing concession stand (my girls and husband devoured the dirt cake). And THANK YOU to Benjie Fennell who showed up early to get the grilled items ready by 5 p.m. and then continued to work as grillmaster through the second shift.
Our first national anthem singers, Ellie and Mia Huffaker, sounded wonderful and got the meet off to a great start. THANK YOU for singing and swimming!
A big THANK YOU to Kevin Kruger, who helped coach through most of last week’s meet even though he isn’t one of our paid coaches. And THANK YOU to coach Alex Fennell, who started helping an anxious team manager with meet setup at 2:30 p.m.
THANK YOU to head timer Jenn Cooper, who jumped in to serve as runner in the second shift when the scheduled volunteer had to leave with a sick kid.
THANK YOU to DJ Olojo and Jamie Kruger, our veteran starters, for keeping a huge meet running smoothly and quickly and finishing ahead of schedule. And a big THANK YOU to Jeff Schaefer, our newest starter, for spending a long meet learning the ins and outs of the role.
LAST WEEK RESULTS
Several team records were broken in our second meet! CONGRATULATIONS to Benjamin Lawrence (7&8 Butterfly) and Ethan van Maanen (7&8 50 Free) for breaking individual records. And CONGRATULATIONS once again to the 7-8 boys medley relay team of Kane Theirs, David Hyatt, Ethan van Maanen and Benjamin Lawrence.
And CONGRATULATIONS to our swimmers of the week! Team records, personal bests, awesome efforts and great attitudes all celebrated with a yard sign for these Dolphins to take home and display in their yards for a week: Emerson Dewald, Forest Dewald, Clara Atkins, Alex van Maanen, David Hyatt, Benjamin Lawrence and Alex Nelson-Valera
You can log in to the SwimTopia app and see the results from last week’s meet. You can also find ALL the results on our “past events” calendar page. The Gwinnett County Swim League posts the top times from the league on its website each week as some swimmers aim to qualify for the County Meet in July. Lots of Dolphins are on the list!
FUN FRIDAY
Thank you to the Hughes Family for sponsoring this week’s Fun Friday with the theme of “Dolphins, Ducks and Donuts.” The Fun Friday treats are always a hit, and we should have enough for each team swimmer and any siblings that might be tagging along that morning to enjoy a treat as well. Please RSVP by EOD Tuesday so our volunteers can have an accurate headcount.
STROKE CLINIC
Each Friday of the season at 9 a.m. the Dolphin coaches offer an optional paid stroke clinic ($10 cash preferred, Venmo as well). This week’s focus is Butterfly, and the clinic will be limited to 20 swimmers. Sign-ups open on our website at 8 p.m. each Monday.
INDIVIDUAL LESSONS
If you are interested in paid individual lessons for your swimmer or know a friend looking for lessons, several of our coaches are teaching privates this summer. See the attached list for contact info.
