June 6: Three Things for Thursday

1. SwimTopia App

Make sure you have downloaded AND logged in to the SwimTopia app on your mobile device. In the event of bad weather, this is the way coaches and team managers will communicate delays or when a meet will resume. Swim meets happen rain or shine, and we’ll communicate with you through SwimTopia alerts and emails if there’s a delay. Read more about weather procedures and tips on our website.

You might notice for tonight’s meet, there are times listed next to events. These are ESTIMATES for when events will start (automatically created by the app). Please do not plan your arrival or departure schedule around those times, as you might miss your event. We are lucky to have experienced starters who know how to keep the meet moving along. One way they’ll do this is with “dive-over starts”. With older kids, one race will start while the swimmers from the previous race wait in the water. And your team managers and lead volunteers have been planning for the unique challenges that come with hosting another large team – so as always, we asked for your patience and flexibility.

2. Parent Seating

For Hanarry West, our spectator seating is on the diving board and concessions stand side of the pool. Parents can sit on either side of the diving board and in the right corner behind the diving board, leaving a walkway for the Dolphin bullpen. Please make sure you also leave a walkway around the pool for coaches and volunteers and around the concessions area. You may notice some reserved seating for key volunteer leadership positions, putting these parent volunteers near the meet area they are responsible for. Your leadership team will also be easy to identify in teal team shirts.

When your swimmers are done for the night, please remember to collect all your trash and personal belongings. And, if you are around for the Butterfly events and final relays, please help us begin to clean up and return the pool deck to its normal state. We only have two designated breakdown volunteers, so we rely on all parents and all coaches to help move furniture, return meet items to the shed, take down signs and generally clean the pool deck. All working together, it goes quickly.

3. Swimmer Seating

For the Dolphins, the bullpen is in the grassy area and in the area near the small shed. Look for signs labeling the specific age group area of the bullpen. Bullpen and Staging volunteers will help 12 and under swimmers get to their events, but ONLY if they are with their age group in the Bullpen. Ultimately, it is a swimmer’s responsibility to get to the blocks on time for their events.

Please remind your swimmers that they are responsible for cleaning up their personal belongings and TRASH when they leave the meet. At the conclusion of our first meet, the Hanarry West bullpen was full of trash. We know we have tired kids at the end of the meet, but we also have tired volunteers and coaches who do not need the added task of cleaning up trash.

See you tonight!
