June 3: HW Dolphins Second Meet Week
Happy Monday Dolphins!
We’ll be hosting Flowers Crossing for our first home meet of the 2024 season! Flowers Crossing is one of the biggest teams in the league and the 2023 County Champions. So you notice more people (and more cars) and lots of strong competition in the pool.
Plan to come hungry as our amazing Dive & Dine Concession Stand will be open. As always, this is the primary fundraiser for our team. NEW THIS SEASON To reduce congestion around the concessions area, the line will go out into the parking lot. This week’s menu will feature: Grilled Burgers, Pulled Pork Sandwich, Baked Potatoes, Chili, Baked Ziti, Nachos, and more! (complete menu is attached) NEW THIS SEASON A new Venmo account you can use at Concessions: HW-Dolphins
This year's meet setup will look very similar to last year’s. If you’ve never been to a home meet, we have diagrams of the deck and lots of meet info on the website.
THANK YOU!
THANK YOU to everyone who entered our Parking Space Raffle during registration! This is a fundraiser for the team, helping us keep our registration costs low. And the Wheel of Names chose the Penna family!
THANK YOU to this season’s sponsors: Hamilton Financial, Angry Ants Pest Solutions and Lilburn Dumpsters.
THANK YOU to everyone for getting in position for our fastest team photo ever! The final product is attached to this email.
THANK YOU to Christian van Maanen, Holli Brown and Rachel Rennick for planning and leading an awesome 50th anniversary party! So many volunteers spent time creating decorations, doing setup and evening breakdown – it couldn’t have been done without everyone! A special thanks to Jessica Shellnut for the beautiful balloons and to DJ Jeff Schaefer for keeping the party going (even in the rain) with great music.
LAST WEEK’S RESULTS
Several team records were broken in our first meet! CONGRATULATIONS to Ansley Olojo and Ethan van Maanen for breaking individual records. And CONGRATULATIONS to the 7-8 boys medley relay team of Kane Theirs, David Hyatt, Benjamin Lawrence and Ethan van Maanen for breaking the team record. Our new team record board was unveiled at the 50th Anniversary party, and now we’ll definitely be updating it at the end of the season! A huge thank you to the Hanarry Hurricanes, who ended up with an extra board and gave it to our team (we only paid to have our name and records printed on it).
And CONGRATULATIONS to our swimmers of the week! Team records and personal bests celebrated with a yard sign (new this year) for these Dolphins to take home and display in their yards for a week: Elle Rutkowski, Levi Bolton, Ansley Olojo, Ethan van Maanen, Kane Thiers, Eli Thomas
You can log in to the SwimTopia app and see the results from last week’s meet. If there’s a green number/time with a minus sign next to a swimmer’s name that means they dropped that much time in that event – and have a new personal best time. If it’s a red number, then they added seconds. You can also find ALL the results on our “past events” calendar page.
The Gwinnett County Swim League posts the top times from the league on its website each week as some swimmers aim to qualify for the County Meet in July. Lots of Dolphins are on the list after the first meet.
FUN FRIDAY
Thank you to Whitten Family for sponsoring this week’s Fun Friday with the theme of “Popstars.” The Fun Friday treats are always a hit, and we should have enough for each team swimmer and any siblings that might be tagging along that morning to enjoy a treat as well. Please RSVP by EOD Tuesday so our volunteers can have an accurate headcount.
STROKE CLINIC
Each Friday of the season at 9 a.m. the Dolphin coaches offer an optional paid stroke clinic ($10 cash preferred, Venmo as well). These clinics focus on a different stroke or swimming skill each week and are limited to 20 swimmers. Sign-ups open on our website at 8 p.m. each Monday. Our blocks are now ready to go, so this week’s clinic focuses on dives and starts. Sign up opens tonight at 8 p.m.
