June 12: Updates from HW Dolphins

Fourth Meet: Thursday, June 15 at Home

The Dolphins host the Cedar Creek Stingrays, a neighboring pool with likely many familiar faces, which should make this a fun and friendly meet! Coach Brown will be sending out an email on Wednesday with the heat sheet.

Home Meet Needs:
For the past two home meets, several families have been stepping up and helping out with essential setup, breakdown and meet odds and ends (a special thanks to those swim fairies emptying the trash cans!). If you can help us this week with the needs below, please send us an email.

  • Driveway monitor – We need a parent (or even teenager) to monitor who parks in the parking lot from 4-5 p.m. We’ll give you a chair and a checklist.
  • Setup – We need a few extra hands for setup, specifically concessions and moving pool furniture off the deck.
  • Trash & Bathrooms – During the meet, we could use one or two parents to periodically check and empty trash cans and restock bathrooms with paper products as needed.
  • Breakdown – Any night owls on our team? If you are still feeling energized at 10 p.m., we’d love your help with the massive task of putting the pool back in order. We can start breaking down some of the non-swimming items at the start of Butterfly.

Important Reminders:

  • Thank you to everyone for following the “blue line” guidelines when you placed your chairs and creating walkways around the pool and bullpen areas!
  • The pool doesn’t close until 4 p.m. on swim meet days, so please don’t set your personal chairs out before this time. If you want to arrive before warmups and set up your chairs, see the list of setup needs above and volunteer to help early!
  • Swimmers should check in at the entrance to the pool when they arrive at the meet.
  • Volunteers should check in at the Volunteer Board in the Clubhouse when you arrive.

Concessions Menu:
Pulled Pork Sandwich, Grilled Burgers, Grilled Hot Dogs, Baked Potatoes, Bowl of Chili, Baked Ziti, Nachos, Pasta Salad and an assortment of desserts.

Volunteer Needs:
Our team is in dire need of additional parents to serve (and be trained) as Starters and Stroke & Turn Judges. If you’ve thought about volunteering, our last 2 home meets would be a great time to shadow these roles – ask questions and see what it’s all about. We are also looking for parents to take the lead and serve as Head Timer and Head Judge. Let us know if you are interested.

Last Week’s Results & Thank You
You can view results from last week’s meet on the “past events” tab of our website’s calendar. The Gwinnett County Swim League also posts the top times from the league on its website each week as some swimmers aim to quality for the County Meet in July.

CONGRATULATIONS to the boys 13-14 medley relay team members Jason Chapman, Alex Fennell, William Leonard and Logan Mercer for breaking a long-standing team record.

CONGRATULATIONS to this week’s Golden Cap recipients Ethan Kruger, Emma Kate Whitten, Ellery Leonard and Henry Penna. The caps are given to swimmers who demonstrate hard work, perseverance and sportsmanship.

BIG THANK YOU to Cindy Nanny, Jennifer Fennell, Adrian Leonard and Patrick Dollar for helping overtime at concessions. And thanks to the following families for donating food to our concessions at last week’s extra-large meet: De Leon, Kruger, Vaughn, Granberry, Ulrich, Swafford, van Maanen and Raffield.

BIG THANK YOU to Rachel Ulrich for laminating signs to go around the pool at meets.

BIG THANK YOU to Jeremy Strickland for not only helping with meet breakdown but also setup! And thanks to DJ Olojo (our awesome starter this week) and Christina van Maanen for staying well past when everyone else left to finish cleaning up the pool deck post-meet. And thanks to Adrianne and William Leonard for cleaning up the bathrooms and remaining items from the tennis pavilion Friday morning.

Fun Friday Sponsor: De Leon Family
Thank you to the De Leon family for sponsoring this week’s Fun Friday, which will feature Snow Cones and cup races. Please RSVP by EOD Tuesday so our volunteers can have an accurate headcount.

Sign Up for Stroke Clinics
Clinics are $10 cash (or Venmo) per swimmer due the morning of the clinic. Sign up on SwimTopia in the Calendar section. June 16/Butterfly Clinic and June 23/Breaststroke still have spots remaining.

RSVP for Last Two Meets
June 22 at Evergreen: RSVP by Friday, June 16 at 10 a.m.

June 26 (Monday) Last Chance Meet at Home: RSVP by Friday, June 23 at 10 a.m.
Our Last Chance Meet will feature individual events only (no relays), end-of-the season awards and the kid-favorite Glow Swim. We’ll send out a specific schedule for the night closer to the event.

Coach Brown will be encouraging kids to take this opportunity to try a new event …or for those close to qualifying for the County Meet, push themselves one last time. When you RSVP, enter in the comment section specific events your child would like to swim at that meet.

Save the Date: County Swimmers Celebration
We are looking at Wednesday, July 5 for our County Celebration. Celebration for 12 & Under swimmers would be after practice that morning. The 13 & up swimmers would have a dinner that evening. If you’d be willing to help us with the planning and execution (decorating) of either of these events, please let us know.
