June 5: Updates from HW Dolphins
Third Meet: Thursday, June 8 at Home
The Dolphins host Flowers Crossing this week. The Mighty Marlins are a large team, with more than 140 swimmers, so give yourself plenty of time to park and walk. Also, our pool deck will be very full on both sides. Coach Brown will be sending out an email on Wednesday with our team’s warmup time and the heat sheet (your swimmer’s schedule of events).
Important reminders:
- When you place your chairs in the HW spectator area, please remember to leave room around the pool so parents, swimmers, coaches, etc. can walk. We are expanding the area where Dolphin parents sit to include the area around the diving board. Please keep chairs out of the area near the concession stand, as this is part of the walkway around the pool and line for concessions. (See attached diagram for seating and bullpen).
- Swimmers should check in when they arrive at the meet. This week, coaches will be set up for check-in at the entrance to the pool.
Volunteers:
- If you can’t attend a meet at the last minute and work your shift for some reason, please let us know ASAP. Message Volunteer Coordinator Kym Chapman or send an email to the team address.
- Please check in at the volunteer board in the clubhouse when you arrive on Thursday.
- NEW: There will be a second-half timer meeting 10 minutes before the second shift begins outside the gate in the parking lot.
Concessions:
Thank you for dining at our Concession Stand at the first home meet! You might have noticed from the early long lines and the sold-out items that our food was a hit. The sales at that meet broke the record – and all those proceeds go back to our team! This week, we are going to be better prepared to handle the early rush and have plenty of food for two large teams.
The menu will feature …. Carnitas Tacos, Grilled Burgers, Grilled Hot Dogs, Baked Potatoes, Bowl of Chili, Baked Ziti, Nachos, Pasta Salad and an assortment of desserts. Prices will be posted the day before the meet.
Last Week’s Results & Thank You
You can view results from last week’s meet on the “past events” tab of our website’s calendar. The Gwinnett County Swim League also posts the top times from the league on its website each week as some swimmers aim to quality for the County Meet in July.
BIG THANK YOU to Mary Borneman for taking the lead on setup for home meets, making sure the pool deck is ready for meets and updating instructions as we make changes this season.
BIG THANK YOU to Volunteer Coordinator Kym Chapman for stepping in last week when there was a volunteer hole and working the entire meet as a Stroke & Turn Judge. And thanks to Jennifer Fennel, Cindy Nanney and Brian Bennett for being flexible with their shifts and volunteer roles so we could fill some last-minute holes.
BIG THANK YOU to Computer Volunteer Kathleen Conway for staying long after Thursday’s meet was over to verify all the times.
Singers Needed for National Anthem
Do you sing as well as you swim? Or better? We are looking for swimmers (or parents or siblings) to sing the national anthem a cappella before our three remaining home meets. If you are interested, send us an email – or better yet, go ahead and send us a video.
Fun Friday Sponsor: Reliant Medical
Thank you to Reliant Medical for sponsoring this week’s Fun Friday, featuring “Grand Prize Game” plus watermelon, grapes and mini muffins. All HW team swimmers (no siblings please) are invited to participate in Fun Friday activities from 10-11 a.m. Please RSVP by EOD Tuesday so our volunteers can have an accurate headcount.
Sign Up for Stroke Clinics
The Friday Stroke Clinics are limited to 20 swimmers due to pool size. Clinics are $10 cash (or Venmor) per swimmer due the morning of the clinic. Signup on SwimTopia in the Calendar section. June 9/Turns Clinic and June 16/Butterfly Clinic still have spots remaining.
RSVP for June 15 Meet
Log into SwimTopia and register your swimmers for next week’s meet. In order to be entered for the June 15 meet against Cedar Creek, your children need to be registered by 10 a.m. this Friday. Please mark “not attending” for the meets you’ll miss.
