May 16: Updates from HW Dolphins

Pool & Practice Etiquette
As we move through the second week of practice, here are a few reminders for team families about pool rules. We know many kids haven’t been around a pool in 8 months, and so a pool and practice etiquette pep talk might be helpful for all our swimmers (this mom gave her 4 kids one last week).

  • No running or horseplay on pool deck.
  • Baby pool is closed to everyone during the hours the swim team uses the pool.
  • Water table is available for toddler siblings and our 6U swimmers.
  • Pool equipment (chairs, tables, lifeguard stand, etc.) are not toys.
  • Clean up after yourself (there’s no cleaning crew for the team or pool).
  • Kids at the pool outside of their practice time (maybe waiting on a sibling or arriving early or staying after) should demonstrate self-supervision or be supervised by their parent (we want our coaches’ attention fully on the swimmers in the water).
  • We have a WONDERFUL team community. Make a new friend. Offer encouragement to a teammate. Thank a coach or volunteer.

Swim Team Breakfast is this Saturday, May 20 8:30-10:45 a.m.
Be sure to RSVP on Swimtopia and sign up for a food or drink item to share. There will be a photo station set up, plus individual paid photos by team parent Kelly Blake, and the team photo and for parents, the volunteer breakouts. Swimmers will receive their team shirt upon arrival to wear in the photo (be sure to label with their name ASAP).
Schedule of activities:
8:30 a.m. Paid individual photos and photo station available
9 a.m. Swimmers - Team photo
9 a.m. Parents – Volunteer info sessions
9:30 a.m. Breakfast
10 a.m. Free swim (no lifeguard on duty)
10:45 a.m. Cleanup

Hand-me-down Suits
If you have team or athletic swimsuits your kids have outgrown, bring them to the breakfast on Saturday and pass them along to a fellow teammate. We’ll have a table setup for hand-me-down suits of all sizes. Bring what you no longer can use and pick up a suit that fits your kid.

Concessions: Drinks & Cooks
Our team can keep swimmer registration costs among the lowest in the league because of the proceeds from our awesome Concessions. This is the team’s primary fundraising mechanism each season, and here are three ways you can help:

  • Drink Donations: 42 of our 82 families have donated so far. We are asking each family to donate $20 to fund the drinks we sell at Concessions.
  • Cook: Are you an amateur chef or have a special item you make really well? Our Concessions Coordinator Trisha Atkins would love to you have you donate your favorite dish to sell at a meet. (We also need cooks for our regular items: Baked Ziti, Chili, Pasta Salad, Desserts)
  • Eat: For our 4 home meets, consider having your family eat and drink from our Concessions. The food is great, we take cash and Venmo and the proceeds benefit your team!

New this Season: RSVP on Swimtopia
To help us plan for meets, Fun Fridays, stroke clinics and other events, RVSPs are all being done this season on Swimtopia. The attached Orientation PowerPoint gives details and visual instructions on how to sign up for events.

Deadline for Swim Meets: Sign up by 10 a.m. Friday before the meet in order for your swimmer to be entered in the following week’s meet. Go to the swim meet and click the green “Meet Entry” button.

Deadline for Fun Friday: RSVP by 5 p.m. Tuesday in order for us to purchase enough treats for all swimmers. Go to the Calendar page, located “Fun Friday” and click on the green “RSVP” button.

29 New Kickboards Ordered
We’ve ordered 29 new kickboards (some for big kids, some for our smallest swimmers) for our swimmers to use at practice this season – and in the seasons to come! A big thank you to the following families for donating to the Dolphin Kickoff: Borneman, Vick, Malkoc, Granberry, Meecham, Mercer, Miller, Hughes, Kersey, Ubeda, Olojo, Penna, Staker, Dewald, Brown & Strickland

If you are planning to join the HW Swim & Tennis Club this summer, please purchase your membership this week. Swim team registration fees for non-Club members will be charged at the end of the month. The Club will provide the team with a list of members, then the fee will be charged.
