May 1: Updates from Hanarry West Dolphins

Parent Meetings: Sunday, May 7 & Tuesday, May 9

There will be two Parent Orientation Meetings to start the season – both on Zoom at 7 p.m. (links will be sent the day before). You only need to attend one. To begin each meeting, we’ll give some basic information about the season and any changes for 2023. For new parents, the end of the meeting will have an overview of summer swim and an opportunity to ask questions. Also, at practices, look for Leadership Team members or fellow parents who look like swim team veterans and ask us questions!

Practice Starts: Monday, May 8

To view the practice schedule, check out the Practice page on our website. As after-school practices tend to be cooler, there may be more dryland exercises than during a typical practice. So, in addition to a swimsuit, goggles and towel, please make sure your swimmers wear tennis shoes for dryland and bring sweats or other warm clothing to put on after swimming.

HW Driveway Repair

The HW Club has let us know that much-needed repair and repaving of the driveway to the pool is starting this week. This means when practice starts next week, it will still not be quite ready for use. Please plan to park along the pool side of the street and walk to the pool area (driveway should be fine for pedestrian traffic).

Baby Pool Closed During Practice

All baby pools throughout the league are closed during practices. The team’s insurance, provided through Gwinnett County Swim League, only covers team members in the lap pool. This rule is standard for summer swim teams in the county. Please remind your swimmers of this rule and keep them out of the baby pool – it’s a distraction for coaches to constantly remind kids.

Concessions Survey

Please take a few minutes to give us your thoughts on several concession stand menu items. All proceeds from concessions go directly to the team and help us keep our registration fees among the lowest in the league. Please consider buying from the concession stands, especially at home meets, and in the meantime, fill out to the survey to give us feedback on what you’d most like to purchase.

Concession Drink Donations

In previous seasons, we've asked that each Dolphin swimmer donate a 12-pack of a specific soda. This year, to save on storage space and help us have exactly what we need for each meet, we are asking each family to contribute $20 to the drink fund. There will be donation boxes at practices and the Pancake Social (cash or check made out to the team). You can also Venmo the team at “Hanarry-Swim-Team” and note “drink donation” or donate through Swimtopia.

Dolphin Kickoff: 25 Kickboards

In the preseason inventory of our team equipment, we found it’s time to replace a few of our key items. One of these is kickboards, which are used during practices to help swimmers learn and practice swimming skills. New kickboards haven't been purchased in more than a decade, and the Dolphin team has grown to more 140 swimmers this season. If you would like to gift a kickboard (or 2 or 3) to the team, you can bring cash or check to practice and drop in the “Dolphin Kickoff” donation box or donate through the Swimtopia website.

Goal: 25 new kickboards Cost: $17 each Total: $425
